Windows 10 Freezes When Playing Games

Hey guys, I’ve been having this annoying issue where my Windows 10 PC freezes while I’m playing games. It doesn’t happen all the time, but when it does, I have to restart the computer because nothing else works. I have an Intel i7, 16GB RAM, and a GTX 1660, so I don’t think it’s my hardware. Any ideas on what could be causing this?

One thing you might not be thinking about is background apps. Sometimes things like Windows Update or a background program can suddenly start using resources, causing your game to freeze. Next time you’re playing, keep Task Manager open and watch for any spikes in CPU or memory usage. That might give you a clue as to what’s going on.

I’ve run into something like this before. Sometimes it’s just the graphics driver acting up. I know it sounds basic, but try completely uninstalling your current drivers using DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) and then reinstall the latest drivers from NVIDIA. Trust me, this solved random freezes for me a while back!

Hey Tom, That’s a tough one. Even with good hardware, overheating could still be an issue. I’d recommend using a tool like HWMonitor to check your temperatures, especially for your GPU and CPU. If they’re getting too hot, it could be causing the freezes. Maybe clean the fans or improve the airflow in your case to keep things cool.
